Meet our Childtime Staff – Ms. Veronica, Lead Infant Teacher

Ms. Veronica is the talented lead infant teacher – as well as the team lead for infants, toddlers and twos – at our Belcamp, MD center. She has been at Childtime for five years and has more than 30 years of experience in early child care! Read on to learn more about Ms. Veronica and why working with little ones is her passion.

Why did you decide to work in early childhood education?

I feel like this is my gift. I love working with children. Even when I was small I always had children around me. It’s just something that I love to do.

What does your typical day look like?

When I come in I normally start breakfast because I also cook sometimes. I make sure each classroom has their breakfast and then I go into one of the older rooms until the teacher comes in at 7:30 a.m. Then I go to my room to start my day with my babies. I check our Day Sheets to see the last time they were fed, changed or eaten, and then I can pick it up from there. Then it’s basically that way the whole day through. We take time to read a story and take time to snuggle and play.

Why do you feel early education programs are so important?

I feel like it prepares children for learning down the road. I also think the earlier they start in care, the more it helps with fears and anxieties that they might have down the road. I really, truly know that it helps.

Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

I am a sign language interpreter!

Do you teach sign language to infants?

I sometimes do! I did teach a song in sign language to the pre-kindergarten class that graduated this past spring. They signed the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” for their parents.  It was really cute!

What is the most rewarding part of being an infant teacher?

I get to watch the babies as they progress from age to age. Some of my children that I had when they were infants have either gone to elementary school or they’re in kindergarten. I get excited because I see how they have grown and all the milestones they have conquered.
